CARNAVAL DE SAN ANTO- 18th Anniversary of our award winning multi-generational drum/dance group that has revolutionized Community Access to music and dance. “All ages, all sizes, all abilities” these performers bring the exciting colors and sounds of the Caribbean and Bahia to our own celebrations performing to the carnaval rhythms of Samba, Reggae and Cumbias. It is community-based inter-generational ensemble (age range of 12-76) with participants selected through open citywide auditions. Carnaval de San Anto reaches out to the magical spirit in each of us
UTOPIAN PERFORMANCE ENSEMBLE- the professional wing of Carnaval de San Anto are often used as Ambassadors of culture for our beautiful city, as official representatives at the 2001 Presidential Inauguration and the 1997 Clinton /Gore Presidential Inauguration, FIESTAS OCTUBRE in Guadalajara, Mexico. The ensemble is active with the Texas Commission on the Arts, Heartland Touring Rosters.
THE CULTIVATION PROJECT- a free Music, Media and Movement program for Elementary School Students. Good things happen when good seeds are planted. We are planting seeds that cultivate the quality of life in our Southside neighborhood. Our target base is Robert B. Green Elementary and all of the schools that are walking distance to our new studio at 2500 S. Presa.
INTERNATIONAL ARTIST RESIDENCY– residencies with renowned choreographers and master drummers from Brazil, USA, Europe. These are professional training workshops and Master Classes.
CULTIVATION– Good things happen when good seeds are planted. We are cultivating the quality of life in our Southside neighborhood. This is a children’s movement, music and media development plan. Our target schools are walking distance to our new studio at 2500 S. Presa. This is a free program.
NOS UNIMOS- SA Project < www.unimos-sa.com > - an online, interactive exhibit of photographs of families who are living in San Antonio’s Westside. This cross-generational project is directly fostering senior citizen access to the tools of our technological society. With its Internet debut on December 1, 2003, NOS UNIMOS functions as an on-line “E-Museum” and is fully operational with a system in place to deal with acquisition, photo restoration, web uploading and identification. Over 3,700 images have been acquired and reside on the server. The title NOS UNIMOS means we are woven or we weave.
MEDIA FESTIVALS– “International Festivals'-' Screenings by media artists throughout the world. "The Youth Film Festival" features film students from local High schools and Local Film Festival- screenings by S.A. artists
DIA DE LOS MUERTOS PROCESSION- “Day of The Dead” November 2 of every year drummers and dancers perform unique music and dances on sacred ground while dressed in full Muerto costumes;
“INCOGNITO FIESTAS MASKED BALL”- Celebrating the worldwide traditions of “CARNAVAL” with music, dance and the mystery of a costumed cultural event.
MARTIAN MARDI GRAS- an otherworldly celebration of Mardi Gras with a live satellite feed of the Carnaval Parades from Brazil, with performances and music.
